Miss Cambodia is the 6th Runner-Up of Miss Planet International 2023

PHNOM PENH: Miss Planet International returned this year after taking a break due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Miss Planet Cambodia, Pok Sreyleak, was this year’s 6th Runner-Up, but she also won the Best Costume Award.

EAC News sat down with Miss Planet Cambodia for an exclusive interview to get to know how she felt about the pageant outcomes.

Over two thousand people attended the 2023 Miss Planet International pageant finale on Sunday, 29 January 2023, which proved to be a spectacular night. The participating beauty queens from over 20 countries got to show off their different outfits, ranging from evening wear to their traditional costumes. In a proud moment for the Kingdom, Miss Cambodia took home the award for Best Costume.

“The national costume was so big and heavy, but I felt so grateful and happy [to wear it] because it is my national costume, the Cambodian national costume [as well as] the winning national costume," said Sreyleak. "I feel so happy right now because when I walked [on stage], I felt confident about myself, I worked [to be] more confident and to look beautiful and like a queen [when] I stood on stage.”

Sreyleak also mentioned that she felt so happy with the support she received from the Cambodian people and thanked them for cheering her on.

“It's so amazing right now... last night I [could not] sleep because I was so happy," she said. “I’m so proud of my Cambodian people who supported me, [I was] so happy to see my people believe [in me] and take care to support me, thank you so much my Cambodian people and the people of the world.”

When asked how she felt about the other girls who participated in the pageant, she said she loved meeting them and found everyone so friendly and curious to learn more about Cambodia.

“I really love [everyone] so much, they are all so friendly," said Sreyleak. "Coming to Cambodia, [they] asked me about all the famous places [here, and about] the culture, so [it was] very good [meeting them], I liked everyone so much.”

Sreyleak also expressed her gratitude to the Miss Planet International pageant for the great experience she had.

The next edition of Miss Planet International will be held once again in Cambodia in October 2023.
